"The Workman's New Clothes" is an original framed mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
  • About: This dream-like, ironic composition is a 'mashup' of source imagery that resonated with the artist — a ca.1910 French académie by an unknown painter in the Metropolitan Museum of Art juxtaposed with a ca.1905 photograph of a hydroelectric station from the Library of Congress website
  • Made with pen-and-ink, India ink wash, watercolor, watercolor pencils, Windsor & Newton pigmented markers, Chinese White, charcoal and white chalk with sgraffito on white clay-coated paper
  • Image measures 15-3/4 by 11-7/8 inches (visible, sheet slightly larger)
  • Framed by the artist with an ornate black wooden frame with a triple acid-free mat (black over burgundy suede over black), completed with an archival backing, UV-filtering plexiglas and a dust cover; arrives wired and ready to hang
  • Framed piece measures 24-3/4 by 20-3/4 inches overall
  • Created in October 2020
  • Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG) and dated "2020", lower right; signed again with his full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse of the work (label with title and date affixed to back of frame)
