"The Conjurer of Better Places" is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
- The Conjurer of Better Places is a riff on a Saint Sebastian oil by Italian painter Guercino (1591-1666); the inclusion of the fanciful umbrella was inspired by a real-life umbrella discovered while browsing the MoMA Design website, Sky Umbrella by graphic designers Tibor Kalman and Emanuela Frattini Magnusso
- Made with watercolor, pen-and-ink and watercolor pencils with sgraffito (scraping) and touches of white gouache on clay-coated paper
- Image measures 18-1/8 by 9-3/8 inches (as shown, sheet slightly larger)
- Created in March 2025
- Signed by the artist with his monogram cipher (PG) and dated "2025", lower left; inscribed with the title and signed again with the artist's full name on the reverse
