"Beware the Machinery" is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
- About: Beware the Machinery is an expressive mashup intermixing Giuseppe Giorgetti's ca. 1671/72 marble of the recumbent Saint Sebastian with Charlie Chaplin's fanciful machinery from Modern Times, with a subtle nod to Michelangelo's Creation of Adam
- Made with watercolor, pen-and-ink, colored pencils and Windsor & Newton pigmented markers with sgraffito (scraping) on clay-coated paper
- Image measures 10 by 16-3/4 inches (as shown, sheet slightly larger)
- Created in 2017
- Signed by the artist with his monogram cipher (PG) and dated "2017", lower right; signed again with the artist's full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
- Provenance: Sold by the artist to a private California collection, 2017; re-acquired from the late collector's estate by Philip Gladstone Studio, 2023
