"Behind the Gilded Wall" is intended to be understood as a visual poem of loss, longing, love and hope relevant to our times. The composition appropriates and adapts an iconic U.S. Army photograph of one soldier comforting another from the Korean War, and combines the image with a reclining figure of ever-evolving, mysterious significance that has appeared from time to time in Philip Gladstone's work ("The Director", "The Collector's Dream")

The sheet size (including white margins all around) is 12-3/4 by 14-1/2 inches
The image size (excluding the white margins) is 11 by 11 inches
