"America" is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
- Made by first creating a digital (Photoshop) collage of Donald Trump's official 2017 White House portrait combined with Käthe Kollwitz’s 1903 etching Woman with Dead Child [View the digital collage↗], then printing the result; the printed image was then embellished and reworked by hand with watercolor, Windsor & Newton pigmented markers, and watercolor pencils
- Image measures 16-1/2 by 12 inches (as shown, full sheet slightly larger)
- Created in 2018
- Provenance: Sold by the artist in 2018 to a private California collection; re-acquired by the artist in 2023 from the late collector's estate
- Signed by the artist with his monogram cipher (PG) and dated "2018", center right; signed again with his full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
